Sopore, Oct 17 (KNO): The students of 11th standard from Government Higher Secondary Schools (Boys and Girls) in Sopore on Saturday staged yet another protest to press for their promotion to the next level. However, the protesters have allegedly damaged the school property during the protest and left one of the teachers wounded. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), witnesses said that the students of 11th standard in Sopore staged a protest today at Iqbal market Sopore to demand mass promotion. Shouting slogans, the protesting students marched throughout the town and said that they could not complete their syllabus owing to the closure of schools and poor internet service. They appealed to the authorities to announce mass promotion for 11th standard students of Kashmir Valley. “We appeal to the government to announce mass promotion for 11th Class students of the Valley and do justice with us. We were not able to complete our syllabus as schools were closed following the outbreak of coronavirus,” said Shaista Bano, a student of Girls Higher Secondary School. The aggrieved students, however, damaged the school property as well as injured one of the teachers posted at GHSS. Meanwhile, police said that they are verifying the incident and any student found involved in damaging the school property will be dealt with strictly. Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sopore Sajad Hussain had assured the students that their matter will be taken up with the higher authorities of Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE). Nonetheless, BOSE officials had stated that there is no chance of mass promotion to students of any class. The government has already announced 30 percent relaxation in syllabus in exams for students of class 10th to 12th—(KNO)
